Objective: For the student to gain knowledge and experience with all major percussion instruments: keyboards (marimba, vibraphone, xylophone), timpani, concert snare drum, and auxiliary accessories.

Each student will receive a full thirty (30) minute lesson, unless a student is late. Lessons will focus on various percussion techniques, all major and minor scales, musical qualities, and school required repertoire such as region and solo contest music.

Expectations: Students must come on time to their lessons and be prepared with their music, pencil, marimba mallets (2 pairs), concert snare sticks (1 pair), and a metronome. Extra mallets when needed per individual (timpani, xylophone, vibraphone, ect.). Also each student will need to come to lessons with a spiral notebook. In the notebook I write down what we’ve worked on in that lesson and what we will work on in the following lesson.

Students are highly encouraged to practice outside of their lesson time each week. The lessons are not meant to be their only practice sessions.  Thirty (30) minutes per day (six days of the week) is the recommended amount of practice time for students to be prepared each week.

Cancellation/Rescheduling: Cancellations and rescheduling must be done as soon as possible. Students will be marked as “unexcused” AND charged for the lesson fee if I am not notified 24 hours (1 day) in advance. If a child is ill, a doctor’s note must be provided to be counted as “excused”.  Emergencies are reviewed on a case-to-case situation by myself and the CFISD Music Lessons department.

Payments: To participate in private lessons, parents must fill out an enrollment form and pay a deposit to the school district. Lessons will be put on a “Stop List” if the student is overdue on their lesson account.

If you have any more questions regarding the private lesson payments or district policies please contact Laura Bradshaw, private lessons secretary, at (281)-897-4076 or by email:
