June 19th:
***
Message from – Jay Hooper…we still need to fundraise as
well. We have got to complete three fundraisers before
school begins. For those that have sent out ideas…thanks!
We could possibly have a big (Garage Sale) a couple of weeks
before college students go back to school. Other
suggestions: joining Aramark (working concession stands @
sporting events), carwashes, a community auction or a BBQ
Dinner or Fish Fry. Ideas?
Special Thanks to Cindy
Larson for taking time out of her day to go
during practice and measure our girls for their Fall
Outfits! |

June 19th:
Dear Cy-Fair Color Guard Family,
After a few weeks of very successful training sessions, we are
really getting geared up for the marching season! Everyone's
been working hard and although I'm sure sometimes the new girls
are wondering if they'll ever learn how to do this, I'm seeing
improvement in everyone! It's very important that everyone,
returning members and new members practice regularly. Have you
accepted the '08 Challege?!
There are a few minor changes in the schedule for the upcoming
weeks. Next week, June 25, Tori Davidson's family has graciously
offered to host a pool party for the color guard! The party will
start immediately following our practice. PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE
EXTENDED THE PRACTICE TIME FOR THIS DAY ONLY! 2:45-5:45. Then
we'll all carpool over to Tori's house in Stonegate (maps will
be available) for the party. End time: 8:30pm It would be great
if some parents could help shuttle kids there. Our captains Zo,
and Marlenabeth are in charge of assigning food items to bring.
If you did not sign up for something please call one of them or
let me know.
July 2 training will stay as scheduled, 2:45-4:45. July 9 is
canceled. July 16 will stay as scheduled, 2:45-4:45 (We are
hoping to have another social event on this day. Laser tag???
Color Guard Camp Aug-4-8 from 8-4pm bring a sack lunch!
Don't forget to get your tickets for the Excitement of Sound
Drum and Bugle Corps show at the Berry Center July 17th! Tickets
are $25 each and you can buy them at DCI.org
See you next week,
Mrs. Williams |
June 11th:
Color Guard Family,
There is an opportunity to see a local drum and bugle corps show
this summer, right in our own Berry Center Stadium! One of our
own graduates, Ryan Page will be marching with one of the drum
corps color guard. Let's get out and support her and watch a
great show! We need at least 20 to get a group discounted
tickets...$20. The show is on Thursday, July 17th at 7 P.M. This
is also a good opportunity to learn more about marching with a
color guard. No transportation will be provided, but I would
like us to sit as a group. Please email me (Mrs. Williams) ASAP
if you can attend. You will need to pay for your ticket on
Wednesday, June 11th. Thanks!
Edie Williams |
June 10th:
Uniform Reminders:
This is just a reminder that the Fall Uniform Amount of $113.00
which includes gloves is due today or by the latest, next
Wednesday, June 11th (during practice). Please make
arrangements to get the funds to Mrs. Williams as soon as
possible. ***There is a training session from 2:45 P.M. - 4:45
P.M.
Assistance with Measuring the Girls:
Also, if there are any Moms that are free next Wednesday, June
11th before practice, Mrs. Williams needs assistance in getting
the girls measured for their unitards next week. If you can
assist, please let me know. Thanks!
Happy June Birthdays To:

Notes:
03-07-2008
Good
Morning, All! Well, it looks like both “A Guard
& B Guard Units” did extremely well this weekend!
On Friday
Night (Taylor H. S. Competition), Rhonda Hallard, Kris
Benson and Don Page were chaperons. We appreciate those
parents who stepped up and volunteered at the last minute.
Both guards performed and did incredibly well.
“B Guard”…, who just advanced to
Scholastic AAA,
came in 4th
Place out of 6
participating schools. There score was a
64.30.
“A Guard”
received a score of 76.30
and took 3rd
place out of 5
participating schools. Way
to go both groups!
On
Saturday (WGI, Houston Regional’s / Klein H. S.), Maureen
Jerding and Teri Page were chaperons. The “B Guard” was
also in attendance. Thanks to those ladies for their
assistance and thanks to the “B Guard” for their time on
Saturday. At WGI, there were 50 units in attendance.
“A Guard”
received a score of 75.80
and ended up advancing to the finals. Way
to go girls and Mrs. Williams, Ms. B and Ms. Brandi!!!!
Parents
let’s keep the momentum going! Remind your daughter to
practice, practice; practice every free chance she gets. We
have three weeks remaining until TCGC Championship Weekend,
March 28-29 and April 5th. Let’s do our part and
rally behind them giving the confidence and encouragement
they need to continue to be successful! Let’s show them
that Cy-Fair H.S. is NOT
ONLY a high school where athletics rule…but where ‘Fine
Arts” can also excel, advance and produce wonderful leaders
of tomorrow! Thanks!
Jay
The two color guard teams had yet
another successful outing this past weekend. A guard is steadily
improving each show and are very competitive within their class
at TCGC. They took 4th place again but were within 1/10th of a
point from 3rd place! Please remember that in comparison to last
year's placings and scores this group of students have really
done remarkable thus far this season to be so competitive within
their class (mid-pack) with scores improving each show. Not an
easy feat in this highly competitive arena within TCGC. I am
very proud of them and know they are working very hard!
B guard took 1st place again within their class and have been
promoted to the next competitive class at TCGC (AAA) This is an
honor to be proud of. However it comes with a new challenge.
They must work even harder to be competitive in their new class.
In addition, they will now share the same Championship weekend
with A guard. Before they were promoted, their State
Championship show would have been Saturday March 29. Now that
they are in AAA class, they will have their State Championship
show on April 5 as will A guard. I am so proud of these students
and thankful to the parents who have helped us thus far. We
still have alot of hard work ahead, but in the end, I'm
confident it will all be worth it.
Sincerely,
Edie Williams

Mark your calendars! On Sat. 15
Mar 2008 the
2008 Cypress Falls Guard Competition will be held at
Cypress Falls HS. Because of high demand (many Guard units
competing), the Percussion event that was part of that
competition has been moved to Cy-Fair HS
and is now being called the
!
So,
we will be needed to help with the event, and will receive part
of the funds earned! This is the Weekend prior to Spring
Break. WE NEED TO HAVE
25 Volunteers. Are you planning
on being there? Good! We'll be calling to confirm.
Sat. 26 Jan 2008 update:
A meeting was held today to discuss everything we’ll need to get
done to pull off hosting the
!
The initial discussion was if we could do it at all. We decided
we would do it because we earn favor with the TCGC and it is
profitable for the Percussion and Color Guard teams to meet our
financial goals.
Parents: Note
that the person listed as the Chair for the event will not
necessarily be the one to carry it out. They may not even be
available that weekend! They came to the meeting today and
started working on a part of the entire task. It is each of
our duty as parents to help out with these events for the
good of our children's program. Working the fund raiser
events takes less $$$ from our pockets; the object being
reaching our financial goals to provide quality instruction.
Hey, why not get your neighbors involved! Sign up with a
friend.
Thanks again everyone for
participating in the discussion and planning for the 2008
Cy-Fair Percussion Show to be held on SATURDAY, MARCH 15th!

sign-up to volunteer.
****This one event could afford us the opportunity NOT to have
to participate in fundraisers next year if we all join together.
This is not just a Color Guard event, but a Cy-Fair H.S. Band
Event!!!
Have a great day!
Regards, J. Hooper |

| Miscellaneous information: |
As a contact person for a group
which regularly uses our schools and/or grounds for youth
activities, you have been sent this email to inform your
organization of the evenings that our CyFair ISD facilities and
grounds will not be available due to TAKS testing the next day.
Our School Board Policy does not permit district property to be
used for activities involving school-aged participants the
evening before administration of a TAKS test. This policy
applies to use of all campuses regardless of the grade levels
being tested the next day in an effort to help families prepare
appropriately for that testing.
As you may have heard, our TAKS calendar has changed slightly
due to polling for the Texas Primary on March 4, so please use
the following current information to plan your activities.
Please inform your participants of this schedule:
Unavailable Evenings prior to TAKS:
Tuesday, March 4 (new date!)
Monday, April 7
Monday, April 28
Tuesday, April 29
Wednesday, April 30
Thursday, May 1
Thanks for your cooperation. Please let me know if you have any
questions.
